New Business Filings in Ohio Hit 88,068 in 2012
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 88,068 new entities filed to do business in Ohio last year, the third consecutive year in which the number surpassed the previous year.
“Ohio is heading in the right direction,” said Jon Husted, secretary of state. “We should build upon these successes and continue to make our state the preferred location for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and create jobs.”
The number of new business filings in December 2012 surpassed those from a year earlier. In total, 6,975 new entities filed to do business in Ohio this past December compared to 6,463 in December 2011.
New business filings are classified as forms submitted to the Ohio secretary of state that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, nonprofit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships.
While these numbers can’t provide a complete picture of the jobs climatein the Buckeye State, they are an important indicator of economic activity that Husted hopes will add to the discussion of how to improve the state’s overall climate for business. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, become profitable or create jobs, Husted noted.
