Matalco Inc. Eyes Lordstown for Aluminum Remelt Shop
LORDSTOWN, Ohio – A local economic development official expects to know within a few months whether a Canadian firm will move forward on a possible expansion project at Ohio Commerce Park here.
Matalco Inc., which manufactures billets and logs for the aluminum extrusion industry, is considering the commerce park for a remelt operation. The company plans to spend more than $70 million on the project, which would create 60 or more good-paying jobs, said Sarah Boyarko, vice president for economic development, retention and expansion, for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
“I've been working with them since January to identify a site and work with our economic development partners to create an incentive package,” Boyarko said. “They still have to go through the incentive approval process at the state level.” Locally, Lordstown Village Council approved a 10-year, 75% tax abatement for the company.
“We are in stiff competition with other out-of-state locations, where they are going through the same process to explore their options, so this isn't a done deal,” Boyarko emphasized.
