Kasich, Exterran CEO Here Today for Plant Event
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Gov. John R. Kasich will headline today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at Exterran Energy Solution’s $13.2 million oil and natural gas equipment fabrication facility here. The press event begins at 11:45 a.m. at the plant, 2572 Salt Springs Road.
The president and CEO of Exterran, Brad Childers will join Kasich on the podium as will the mayor of Youngstown, Charles Sammarone. Also speaking will be representatives of three economic development agencies that helped secure the project, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Team Northeast Ohio and JobsOhio.
Exterran is based in Houston and employs more than 10,000 at its operations in 30 countries. Its facility here fabricates production equipment used to treat and process natural gas and oil after it is extracted from the ground. These processes include separation, dehydration, natural gas conditioning, oil treating and conditioning, filtration and air emissions control.
The first products were manufactured here in early April. The plant employs about 80. One of the reasons the company selected the Youngstown site was the availability of a skilled workforce, according to Michael Grimland, director of manufacturing.
"The workforce is really energized," he told The Business Journal in March during a tour of the facility. The new hires all possess strong technical skills such as welding, fitting and design work, while all of them express a strong support for the oil and gas industry, he said.
"We designed and built this facility to be able to handle all of our different products," Grimland added.
Exterran reports annual revenues in excess of $2.8 billion.
