Global Trade Magazine Says City Employee-Friendly
YOUNGSTOWN – Citing the city’s “entrepreneurial tradition,” Global Trade magazine listed Youngstown among the Top 10 employee-friendly places in the U.S.
The ranking was announced this week when Global Trade published its third annual “Best Cities for Global Trade” report (CLICK HERE). Employee-friendly is among the 10 “needs-oriented and relevant categories” that exporters consider when making location decisions, the trade journal said, and one of the 10 it ranked. In all, 100 cities made one of the lists.
In its report, the magazine told exporting businesses, “Think of this as a collection of helpful tips. We think you should consider these cities . . .”
The other nine most employee-friendly cities were Bozeman, Montana; Flagstaff, Arizona; Knoxville, Tennessee; Little Rock, Arkansas; Odessa, Texas; Sacramento, California; San Diego, California; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Windsor, Connecticut. They were not ranked in any particular order.
Global Trade’s report on Youngstown (CLICK HERE) says the following:
“Its economic woes well-documented, Youngstown remained true to its entrepreneurial tradition — Good Humor Ice Cream and Arby’s were born in the region -- with the Youngstown Business Incubator, a downtown space that birthed several successful startups including Turning Technologies, which Inc. magazine rates as the fastest-growing privately held software company in the U.S. Home prices are extremely low: recently a seven bedroom, 4,800-square-foot home was on the market for just $150,000.”
The magazine’s distinction continues the Mahoning Valley’s recognition nationally and worldwide for its economic progress. Here are some other recent accolades:
- The University Business Incubator Index named the Youngtown Business Incubator the world's best business incubator associated with a university.
- Business Facilities magazine touted the Youngstown-Warren Metro Area in four of their top 10 rankings in their 2014 Metro Rankings Report.
- The website SmartAsset.com has ranked the Youngstown-Warren area as No. 1 in the U.S. for access to healthcare.
- A Manhattan Institute for Policy Research Study in June 2014 listed the Youngstown-Warren Metro Area as having the 10th best economic performance among the nation’s largest metro areas from 2009-2012.
- Forbes Magazine, in April, named the Youngstown-Warren Metro Area the fifth-best in the country for raising a family, noting the area has a low cost of living, short commutes, and solid school and crime statistics outside the city proper.
“This sort of ranking supports our overall attraction efforts, not only for business, but also a talented workforce,” said Sarah Boyarko, vice president of economic development, North America, for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber. “There are a lot of great firms to work for in the Mahoning Valley and we continue to attract new employment opportunities.”
Global Trade Magazine is based in Newport Beach, Calif., and is published in print six times a year. Its circulation is 41,000, according to the publication's website.
