Ewing Named Co-Chair of TechBelt Initiative
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Barb Ewing, chief operations officer of the Youngstown Business Incubator, today was elected co-chair of the TechBelt Initiative. She replaces Eric Planey, who left the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber earlier this year after accepting a position in New York.
“Barb is an excellent choice to continue the important work of the TechBelt Initiative. Her exceptional experience and dedication will continue to enhance our efforts to build broad collaboration among economic development stakeholders across the TechBelt region,” stated DeWitt Peart, TechBelt Initiative co-chair.
The TechBelt Initiative was established to develop a strategy to reinvigorate the Cleveland-to-Pittsburgh-to-Morgantown corridor and surrounding region. Its goal is to identify opportunities to collaborate in the creation of new products, technologies, companies and wealth.
“We have accomplished a great deal in a short time, and I am honored to take on a larger role in bringing renewed investment and continued development to the region,” Ewing said.
Ewing joined YBI after eight years working in Congressman Tim Ryan’s office in the position of economic development director, where she championed the formation of the TechBelt Initiative. She also served as vice president of public policy for the Regional Chamber, where she lobbied to bring state and federal funding back to the Mahoning Valley for community development projects.
“I am very proud of Barb Ewing and congratulate her on becoming the co-chair of the TechBelt Initiative,” said Tim Ryan. “Barb has a long history of leadership in both government and the private sector, and I am confident in her ability to spur economic growth in the areas of technology and innovation.”
Ewing, a native of the Mahoning Valley, holds her Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University and her Master's from Capella University.
