City Approves $20K Grant to Imbibe Owners
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A partnership that wants to open a new bar offering craft beers is expected to move forward soon following city approval of a $20,000 performance grant Thursday, the city’s economic development director said.
The city Board of Control approved the grant to SKA Limited LLC, which plans to open the new bar on the second floor of 124 W. Federal St. The partnership now operates Imbibe on the first floor of the building. The Youngstown Initiative committee recommended the grant at a meeting last month.
According to T. Sharon Woodberry, city economic development director, SKA was awaiting board of control approval of the grant before moving ahead with the project, which is expected to cost an estimated $198,914 and create four full-time and 18 part-time positions over three years.
“We expect them to move forward immediately,” Woodberry said. She said the project should be completed during the first quarter of 2013.
Additionally, the board, which consists of Mayor Charles Sammarone, Law Director Anthony Farris and Finance Director David Bozanich, approved leases for two spaces in the city-owned 20 Federal Place building. The city will lease a 1,900-square-foot space to attorneys Christopher Sammarone and Bryan Ridder and a 3,465-square-foot space to American Maintenance Janitorial Services Inc.
The mayor, who is the father of one of the attorneys, abstained from voting on that lease.
