7,753 File in February to Do Business in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 7,753 new entities filed with the office of secretary of state to do business in Ohio in February. In January and February, new business filings totaled 15,533, up from 15,157 the same period last year.
During 2012 and 2013, the state saw a record-setting number of new businesses file, with 88,068 and 89,735 filings, respectively. Growth in online business filings has been steady and available online services continue to be expanded. Since the launch of the program last October, 7,455 new companies have filed online, according to Jon Husted, Ohio secretary of state.
New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity -- for-profit, nonprofit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
The office of the secretary is the first stop for individuals or companies who want to file and start a business in Ohio. While these numbers can’t provide a complete picture of Ohio’s jobs climate, they are an indicator of economic activity within the Buckeye State, Husted said.
