ODNR Permits More Chesapeake Wells
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources approved a permit Feb. 2 from Chesapeake Exploration, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy, to drill a new well for natural gas production at the Janie Trust property on Hazel Run Road in Columbiana County's Washington Township.
The permit is Chesapeake's 10th horizontal drilling permit in Columbiana and the second on the Janie Trust property.
Chesapeake's latest permit application for a Columbiana property was submitted Feb. 6 to drill a new well in Butler Township on the Herron Trust property. If permitted and completed, the Herron Trust well would be Butler Township's first Utica shale well site.
The latest reports from the ODNR also show two Chesapeake wells in Columbiana -- the Ayrview Acres property in West Township and the Sanor Farms property in Knox Township -- waiting for hydraulic fracturing, the process in which water and sand and blasted into the shale formations to release natural gas deposits.
Another well on the Ayrview Acres property is being drilled laterally, according to ODNR.
Chesapeake's latest horizontal drilling permits in Carroll County are for the Walters property well in Perry Township, approved Jan. 26, the Scott property well also in Perry, approved Jan. 25, and the Halter property in Rose Township, approved Jan. 25.
In Carroll County's Lee Township, four wells are waiting to be hydraulically fractured: two on the White property, one on the Bailey property and one on the Tanner property.
The 9 5/8-inch casing was set for another well on the White property and the surface casing was set for another well on the Bailey property. The surface casing was also set for a well on the Snoddy property in Lee and the lateral well is being drilled on the Houyouse property in Lee.
On the Bucey property in Carroll's East Township, the surface casing was set for one well and another well is waiting to be hydraulically fractured.
A well was completed in Augusta Township in Carroll on the West property.
In Carroll County, Chesapeake applied Feb. 2 for three permits on the Neider property in Washington Township and Feb. 6 for one permit on the Burry property in East Township . Each permit is to drill a new well on the properties and to drill horizontally into the Point Pleasant formations.
Elsewhere in the state, Chesapeake received approval to drill two horizontal wells in Jefferson County, and Devon Energy Production's permit for a horizontal well in Knox County was approved as well.
The two wells to be drilled in Jefferson will be in Salem Township -- one on the Dailey property, the other on the Kirk property -- and the well in Knox will be in Morgan Township on the Sensibaugh property.
