New Well Permits Issued to Hilcorp, Chesapeake
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hilcorp Energy Corp. has been awarded a new permit to continue developing a well site in Mahoning County while six new permits have been issued to Chesapeake Exploration LLC to drill new horizontal wells in Carroll and Harrison counties, according to data posted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
A plug back and horizontal permit last week was issued to Houston-based Hilcorp for a site it selected in Poland Township near the Carbon Limestone Landfill for a new oil and gas well, ODNR records show.
Hilcorp was initially granted a permit for the site in October. That month it also applied for another permit to drill a new horizontal well in the township near the intersection of Miller and Moore roads, records show. That application is pending.
Hilcorp, along with NiSource Midstream, is developing a $300 million oil and gas transmission network that will extend from western Pennsylvania into Mahoning County and south through Columbiana County to collect and transport natural gas from drilling sites in the Utica shale.
The project, known as Hickory Bend, includes the development of a cryogenic processing station slated for eastern Mahoning County.
ODNR issued six permits last week to Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake for new wells in Harrison and Carroll counties. Chesapeake has the largest position in the Utica play with 1.3 million acres under lease and has drilled 134 wells in the play since December 2010.
Gulfport Energy Corp., also based in Oklahoma City, received a permit to drill a new horizontal well in Belmont County and another in Harrison County. Gulfport’s four wells in this region are to date the most productive in the Utica.
And, new permits were issued to XTO Energy Inc., a division of Exxon-Mobil, for drilling rights in Monroe County. Two new permits were awarded to CNX Gas Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Consol Energy, for wells in Noble County.
ODNR granted another permit to Antero Resources Appalachian Corp. for a new well in Noble County, records show.
There were no new permits issued to companies for well activity in Columbiana County during the week of Dec. 9.
No new horizontal drilling permits were issued for sites in Mercer or Lawrence counties in western Pennsylvania, according to records provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
