New Permits for Utica Wells in Trumbull, Lawrence
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Houston-based Halcon Resources Corp. has secured a permit to drill a new horizontal well in Vienna Township as the company continues its exploration in Trumbull County and portions of western Pennsylvania.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources reports that Halcon Resources, a subsidiary Halcon Operating Co. Inc., was awarded a permit April 29 to drill a new Utica well -- the Avalon 1H -- in Vienna Township in Trumbull County in a 209-acre unit.
It's the first horizontal permit issued in the Vienna Township since CNX Gas, a subsidiary of Consol Energy, stopped work on its well on the Wollam farm last year.
BP America Production Co. also received a permit April 29 to drill a horizontal well, the Buckeye 1H, in Hartford Township, Trumbull County, ODNR records show.
ODNR issued 14 new horizontal permits for exploration in the Utica shale during the week ended May 4.
Aside from the two wells in Trumbull County, the state agency issued five new permits in Carroll County -- three to Rex Energy and two to Chesapeake -- three permits to Gulfport Energy in Harrison County, three to CNX Gas in Noble County and one in Washington County for PDC Energy.
Halcon received a permit April 29 to drill a new horizontal well in Mercer County, Pa., at the Pilgrim unit in Delaware Township, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Meantime, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell has secured permits for six new wells designated for exploration in the Utica shale region of western Pennsylvania, the regulator agency reports. SWEPI LP was awarded permits April 29 to drill six horizontal wells in Lawrence County. All six are permitted for the Twentier property in Perry Township.
