New Permits for Lawrence, Columbiana Counties
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Royal Dutch Shell subsidiary Shell Western E&P Inc., or SWEPI, advanced its drilling interests in Lawrence County, Pa., as the energy company last week was awarded three new horizontal permits for wells in North Beaver Township, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
SWEPI obtained three permits for horizontal wells on the Kephart property near the intersection of Enon and Mount Jackson Roads. One well has already been drilled at the site.
Another permit was issued to Houston-based Hilcorp Energy, records show, for a single well at the Kinkela farm in Pulaski Township, Pa.
No Utica well permits were issued for sites in Mercer County last week, according to the Pa. Department of Environmental Protection.
In Ohio, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded seven horizontal permits during the week of March 24.
Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. secured a new permit for a well in Columbiana County on the Manziel property in Franklin Township, while ODNR approved three other permits for the company to drill in Carroll County, Loudon Township, at the Anderson farm.
Gulfport Energy Corp., also based in Oklahoma City, was issued a permit to drill a single well in Harrison County, Moorefield Township. ODNR issued two horizontal permits for Antero Resources Appalachian Corp. to drill wells in Seneca Township.
No permits were issued last week for either Mahoning or Trumbull counties.
To date, 588 permits have been issued in Ohio's Utica shale, 282 are now drilled, and 81 are in production, according to ODNR.
