New Hilcorp Wells in Lawrence County, Pa.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued four new permits to Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Co. to drill horizontal wells in Lawrence County, records show.
All four permits are slated for the Kinkela property in Pulaski Township, according to new permits filed by the DEP. They were issued Oct. 29. The company also has leasehold agreements and drilling permits in North Beaver Township in Lawrence County.
Aside from Hilcorp, Shell Oil subsidiary SWEPI LP is the second-most active driller in Lawrence County, and has secured drilling permits in North Beaver Township.
Hilcorp was also awarded a drilling permit for a new vertical well in Mercer County Oct. 25 for the Drake farm in Pymatuning Township, records show.
No new permits were posted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as of Tuesday for Utica shale drilling activity for Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.
An existing permit, once held by Carrizo Oil & Gas, was transferred Nov. 2 to Halcon Operating Co. Inc. for a well in Hartford Township in Trumbull County at the Brugler property.
The Business Journal reported last week that Hilcorp was issued a permit to drill in Poland Township near Poland Township Park in Mahoning County on land owned by the Carbon Limestone Landfill. The company has entered into an agreement with NiSource to develop a pipeline and transportation network across northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
Chesapeake Exploration LLC, the most active driller in the Utica shale, was issued five new permits by the ODNR to drill three horizontal wells in Harrison County and two in Carroll County.
Antero Resources Appalachian Corp. was also issued three permits to drill horizontal wells in Noble and Monroe counties in Seneca Township. And, Devon Energy Production Co. was issued a permit to drill a new Utica well in Holmes County, ODNR records show.
