Hydrogeologist to Discuss Fracking at Westminster Thursday
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Answers to commonly asked questions about hydraulic fracturing will be offered at a lunch seminar at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Westminster College. The speaker is Kyle Murray, Oklahoma geological survey hydrogeologist.
The seminar, hosted by the college's environmental programs, is "Interplay between Water, Energy and the Environment: Tales from the Mid-Continent."
Among the issues discussed are the quantities of freshwater used in hydraulic fracturing, identifying some of the chemicals of concern used in the process and the quality of the water used to release oil and gas.
Murray is a hydrogeologist for the Oklahoma Geological Survey and an adjunct faculty member in the School of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Oklahoma. His research, Westminster says, is designed to provide practical scientific perspectives on water issues and to influence responsible management and sustainable practices.
The seminar will be held in Phillips Lecture Hall in the Hoyt Science Resources Center. For more information, call Leslie Watson at 724 946 6279.
