YBI Included in CNN's Political Coverage of Area
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Coverage of the Mahoning Valley political scene will wind up putting the Youngstown Business Incubator on CNN today or tomorrow, YBI’s chief operating officer says.
A CNN new crew was in the area this week covering the role of the Mahoning Valley in the upcoming presidential election. The crew had some spare time and folowed up on a suggestion by one of the individuals interviewed to visit YBI, Barb Ewing, its COO, said. The reporter, contributor John Avlon, whose grandmother lives in the area, wanted to talk about the changes taking place in Youngstown, how much the community has shifted and the role YBI has played in that, she said.
“It’s really not just about job creation but the sense of entrepreneurialism and innovation” that has helped the community believe in itself, she said. Also interviewed were Mike Broderick, founder of Turning Technologies, and Darrell Wallace of the new National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute.
YBI received good news Wednesday with the announcement by state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of $262,500 to be used to expand the Youngstown Edison Incubator Corp.’s focus to include advanced materials and manufacturing as well as advanced energy and clean technologies.
“I believe that as the incubator grows, so does the city of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley,” Schiavoni, D-33 Boardman, said in a release announcing the funding.
YEIC will continue renovation of its 25,000 square-foot incubation facility and will continue to provide telephone and internet services, video connections, a software testing laboratory, an inventory of computer, video, projection, and other equipment, and trade show fixtures to tenants.
