WYSU Meets Fund-Drive Goal on Last Day
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- As of 9:15 a.m. on the final day of its Fall Fund Drive, WYSU-FM surpassed its goal of the $132,000, the station announced Sunday. That sum came from 1,110 listeners, including 111 new donors, who contributed.
The $132,000 goal was higher than the $115,000 set for the last several drives.
This year’s fall drive was moved up a month and spread over three to adjust for changes in personnel that would have made that goal in October “impossible,” the director of broadcasting, Gary Sexton, said.
Sexton said the additional funds are necessary to offset cuts the university imposed this past year. “In these challenging times, this drive has been such a fabulous affirmation of the importance of public radio to our personal lives, to YSU and to the community,” he said in a prepared statement.
