VXI Considers Adding New Call Center in Ohio
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- VXI Global Solutions Inc. was awarded a job creation tax credit Monday by the state of Ohio for a potential call center at a location to be determined. Questioned by The Business Journal, a VXI spokesman offered his assurances that the company remains satisfied with its call center downtown but it is not likely to open another call center, at least not now, in the Mahoning Valley.
The news release from the office of Gov. John Kasich reported that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 50%, five-year job creation tax credit for the call center company, which expects to create 400 full-time positions at the facility, generating $9 million in annual payroll. The VXI project is among 17 projects expected to create 1,993 jobs and retain 2,181 jobs for which the state approved tax credits Monday.
VXI, based in Los Angeles, opened a call center at 20 Federal Place in October 2009, taking over one floor of the building, and within a year expanded to a second floor. The company today employs about 1,000 workers there, VXI spokesman Nick Covelli said. VXI also operates a call center in Canton that it expanded this year.
“We continue to be very happy with our Youngstown and the Canton centers. Canton just celebrated the addition of its 1,000th employee this past Thursday,” Covelli said. “We will continue modest expansion in both sites as the availability of good talent allows.”
Since VXI is in the middle of its site-selection process, Covelli said he could not disclose much about locations the company is reviewing but acknowledged “several locations” in Ohio are under consideration. The tax credits approved Monday make the Ohio locations “more attractive,” he added.
However, additional locations near the company's call centers in Youngstown and Canton are not being considered “due to overlap in demand for local talent,” according to the ocmpany spokesman.
