Valley Sales of New Vehicles Up 24% in September
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new cars and trucks in the Mahoning Valley spiked 24% during September, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report.
Dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties report they collectively sold 2,393 new models during the month, compared with 1,924 new vehicles sold during the same period in 2012.
The increase in local retail sales bucked the national trend for September, which saw overall deliveries and sales from the major automakers decline.
Sales of new and used cars were also higher during the month, ADEAO said. Dealers in the region tallied sales of 5,831 new and used vehicles compared to 5,078 last year -- a 14.8% improvement.
The Chevrolet Malibu proved the best selling new model in September with 176 sales, ADEAO reported. The Chevrolet Equinox was second highest in volume sales with 143, followed by the Ford F-150 with 102 sold, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 91 sold. Rounding out the five best-selling models in the region was the Chevrolet Cruze with 83 new sales.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, recorded the highest volume of new sales during the month with 169, followed by Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 147. Taylor Kia, Boardman, reported 136 sales, Columbiana Buick Cadillac, Columbiana, reported 102 sold, and Fairway Ford, Canfield said it sold 101 new vehicles during the month.
