Teamsters Back to Work; Landfill Workers Are Not
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Drivers with Teamsters Local 377 this morning returned to their jobs with Republic Services/Allied Waste, although workers at the company's Carbon Limestone Landfill remain on strike, the company reported minutes ago.
"We appreciate the patience of our customers during these past few days," said Doug Dunn, Youngstown general manager, in a statement issued by the company. "Republic Services/Allied Waste will continue to negotiate in good faith to secure a workable contract agreement."
Workers represented by the union walked off the job Thursday morning, and managers, supervisors and nonunion employees from other areas have collected garbage in the interim, working through Easter weekend.
The next scheduled negotiating session is April 9.
