State OKs Roadwork Grant to Support Hynes Project
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The State Controlling Board voted Monday to approve a $43,000 roadwork development grant to the Mahoning County engineer’s office Monday for improvements to support Hynes Industries’ expansion.
The project includes the reconstruction of a two-lane, deteriorated roadway used at the main access road to the industrial park that connects North Meridian Road to Four Mile Run road.
In May, following approval of a seven-year, 40% job-creation tax credit. Hynes announced that it would consolidate operations at its Oakwood Avenue headquarters and sites on Industrial Road in Youngstown and in McDonald into the 265,000-square-foot Wean Building at 3805 Hendricks Road. Hynes plans to add 42 jobs and retain 140 jobs at the new building, according to state documents.
Among the options Hynes considered was expanding its plant in Kokomo, Ind.
In May, following approval of the tax credit, D.R. Golding, vice president of strategic development for Hynes, cited the company’s growth as driving the need to expand. Hynes is on track to grow by 15% to 18% this year following 50% growth over the past three years, he said. The company processes steel for a variety of customers.
