Stambaugh Auditorium Takes Public $2.5M Capital Campaign
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Stambaugh Auditorium has embarked on the public phase of its $2.5 million capital campaign to raise funds to renovate and improve its ballroom and kitchen, general mnager Matt Pagac says.
Other improvements include repairing and cleaning the façade of the landmark structure and replacement of the Fifth Avenue steps.
The campaign has raised $1 million since its silent phase that began in March. Thirty foundations and private donors have contributed to the campaign so far, Pagac reports.
Work on the kitchen and ballroom began last July when the kitchen was completely renovated and a new service corridor, loading ramp, and storage closets were constructed. Work on the ballroom project is scheduled to continue next month with the renovation of the entrance and addition of an ADA-accessible ramp that will be included in the public entrance to the ballroom.
Future ballroom improvements include a new color scheme, lighting, a ceiling treatment, a permanent bar, along with the HVAC system and enlarged performance and event capabilities.
The ballroom and kitchen improvements make them more useful as well as increase the number of events the space can accommodate, Pagac says.
Work planned for the exterior includes cleaning and repointing the limestone façade.
The façade has never been cleaned in the 87 years since the auditorium was built, Pagac noted. The exterior work will also include the replacement of the steps that lead from Fifth Avenue to the main entrance.
The planned improvements are part of an effort that began in 1984 with the replacement of the original copper roof and continued in 1994 with the cleaning and restoration of Anne Christman Hall.
The improvement and restoration efforts have included restoration of the west entry marque and the 2553-seat concert hall and stage.
On the capital campaign committee are Mark Gasser, chairman and trustee; Jeanne Tyler, honorary chairwoman and trustee emeritus; Jennifer Gasser, campaign secretary; Jacqueline Bibo, fund development officer; William Conti, director of development relations and capital projects; Terrence Cloonan, trustee president; Jeanne Simeone, trustee vice president; David Konik, trustee treasurer; J. David Sabine, trustee; David Kucharski, director; Margaret Adams, director; and Pagac.
