Sharon Tube to Celebrate Wheatland Plant Expansion
WHEATLAND, Pa. -- The CEO of JMC Steel Group, Barry Zekelman, will cut the ribbon today to commemorate the expansion of Sharon Tube’s 250,000-square-foot plant at 20 Church St. here and “its new state-of-the-art manufacturing process.”
The ribbon-cutting is part of “Sharon Tube Media Day” and will include plant tours for local dignitaries, employees and their families “in support of Sharon Tube and the resurgence of American manufacturing,” the company states in a press advisory. Also speaking at today’s event will be Bill Perrine, president of Sharon Tube, an operating subsidiary of JMC Steel Group.
The event will note the re-launch in April of the Sharon Tube brand for JMC’s Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) Tubing. "Now that we've built the world's most modern precision tube manufacturing facility, increased our size range and doubled our capacity, we can deliver even greater value to our customers,” Zekelman said in April.
The company has not specified how much it has invested to upgrade the plant. It includes a completely automated pickle and lube line, a new draw bench, an annealing furnace and a finishing line complete with advanced nondestructive testing equipment. The latest CNC (computer controls) equipment drives all process and scheduling, the company says.
In addition to Sharon Tube, JMC Steel Group includes the operating divisions of Atlas Tube, Picoma, Energex Tube and Wheatland Tube. The company describes itself as the largest independent manufacturer of hollow structural sections and steel pipe in North America, and the top producer of electrical conduit and elbows, couplings and nipples in the United States.
JMC was founded as the John Maneely Company in 1877.
