WASHINGTON -- U.S. steel mills shipped 8,372,929 net tons in September, down 1.3% from August, the American Iron and Steel Institute announced Monday. This represents a 6.3% increase over the net tons shipped in September 2013.
Shipments year-to-date are 74,123,773 net tons, a 3.1% increase over the first nine months of 2013, AISI says.
A comparison of September shipments to August shows the following changes: hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 5%; hot-rolled sheets, down 1%; and cold-rolled sheet, down 3%.
The American Iron and Steel Institute is a trade association composed of 20 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and another 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.
