Salem Twin Cinema Targets Nov. 14 for Grand Opening
SALEM, Ohio -- Renovations are underway at Salem Twin Cinema in anticipation of a planned Nov. 14 grand opening. A ribbon cutting and open house is set for 4 p.m. Thursday.
The first movies expected to be shown in the new theater are the new Disney computer-animated film, “Big Hero 6,” and “Interstellar,” the Christopher Nolan-helmed space epic starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain.
Three cargo containers with the sound system components have been delivered as well as the 300 seats to be assembled and installed. Remodeling work has been done on the lobby, restrooms and theaters. Crews from as far away as Tennessee will come to Salem to install the new digital projectors, high-definition surround-sound systems, deluxe seats and new screens.
Salem native Alex Grist, whose theater experience includes working at the former Twin Cinema and most recently serving as an assistant manager at an area multiplex theater, will manage the theater.
“The new owners have focused not only on creating a truly unique movie experience but carefully designed the space to make it easy to serve movie goers with extra convenience,” Grist said. “Despite the theater’s limited space, great care has been taken to provide for smooth concession sales and ease of service. The theater will accept credit cards and offer a rich loyalty program, where frequent clients will earn free concessions and other rewards.”
Among the features of the theater are VIP rooms, renovated from the former projection rooms. Each has tiered seating for six and its own surround-sound system. A large window into the theaters provides a clear view of the screen while providing a secluded space for private conversation during the movie. The VIP rooms also will provide phone charging and Wi-Fi connectivity.
“We expect to rent out the VIP rooms through pre-paid reservations. Pricing for VIP rooms is tentatively set at $100 per show time, which includes seating and seat-served unlimited popcorn and fountain drinks for six,” Grist said.
In addition, a restroom that meets standards of the Americans With Disabilities Act and two ADA-compliant drinking fountains have been installed. The theaters will also include deluxe seating for caregivers adjacent to several wheelchair spots.
