Ryan Hosts Talks in Phillips Strike
WARREN, Ohio – No agreement was reached in the prolonged strike at Phillips Manufacturing in Niles, but U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan says he's encouraged following his meeting Thursday with the company’s management and union leaders.
Ryan, D-13 Ohio, met with George Kubat, Phillips Manufacturing’s president/CEO, his management team, the United Steelworkers International and local union representatives with the intent to try to end a strike at the company’s Niles plant, which manufactures steel components used in construction, the congressman's office announced late Thursday. The strike has been under way since September.
“I want to thank Mr. Kubat and his team for making the trip from Omaha to help work towards resolving this labor dispute,” Ryan stated in the announcement. “We had a constructive exchange of ideas with both sides offering creative solutions to the pending issues. While there is not yet an agreement, both sides demonstrated good faith and agreed to meet again in the very near future.”
