Penn National Sets May 30 Ground Breaking for Racino
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Penn National Gaming Inc. will officially break ground May 30 on its new Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Race Course here, the company announced today.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the site of the former Centerpointe Business Park off Route 46 in the township. Based in Wyomissing, Pa., plans to spend $250 million, including state licenses and fees, to develop the racino, which is slated to open in spring 2014.
Penn National reached an agreement May 1 with the Ohio State Racing Commission on seating at the racino, which will feature thoroughbred racing and video lottery terminals, after several weeks of often contentious meetings and deliberations. Penn National required the commission to approve the transfer of its thoroughbred license from its Beulah Park track in Grove City to the Austintown track site.
Under the plan approved by the commission, the Austintown Hollywood Slots will open with 1,001 enclosed, track-view seats. Work has been under way at the site since last year.
