Pecchia Communications Hires Nonprofit Specialist
CANFIELD, Ohio -- Pecchia Communicationshas hired Lisa Long, a 13-year public relations veteran, as a consultant to serve its growing volume.
Long was most recently development director for Hunger Free Vermont in Burlington, Vt., before moving back to Ohio with her family. Previously, she held PR leadership positions at Burlington City Arts, ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Center and Vermont Children's Hospital. Prior to that, she was a television news reporter, anchor, and producer.
“Lisa brings us a valuable background and new skills in nonprofit public relations, development and marketing,” said Dan Pecchia, president of Pecchia Communications. “This is an area where we’d like to grow. We’re very fortunate to be expanding our capabilities as a result of improving business conditions locally and nationally.”
Long, a Chicago native, received her bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Miami University in Oxford. She then moved north, working as a television news reporter and anchor at an NBC affiliate in Marquette, Mich., where she won 2001 Associated Press awards for Best Hard News and Best Breaking News.
She then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where, as weekend anchor, she led the NBC station’s weekend news to its highest ratings in 42 years and became its assignment manager. She then moved to Burlington to launch that market’s first 5 p.m. newscast.
In 2003, Long took her skills to the non-profit realm, holding public relations and fund-raising positions with Prevent Child Abuse Vermont, Vermont Children’s Hospital, ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Center, Burlington City Arts and Hunger Free Vermont. At HFVT, she led public relations, fundraising and event planning activities for the 20-year-old statewide organization, working toward a $1.2 million annual fundraising goal.
“Local non-profit organizations are enjoying a time of opportunity as a result of better employment, the shale boom and this area’s long-lasting legacy of giving heavily to those in need,” Long said. “We also see increasing competition among newer, older and re-energized organizations. We’re looking forward to playing a greater role, as we believe improvements in the PR and fundraising functions can provide tremendous advantages.”
