Mycap Wins High Marks for Two Programs
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. Internal Revenue Service has audited the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (Mycap) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Electric Partnership programs and rated them excellent, Mycap announced Thursday.
The reviews were performed to determine whether Mycap met the requirements and criteria established for both programs, a spokesman said. Two IRS agents visited the Mycap offices on Fifth Avenue unannounced, and examined more than 30 criteria set for the income tax assistance program.
Upon completion, the IRS found that Mycap’s participation in VITA “met all the quality site requirements and volunteer standards of conduct. … The site coordinator is enthusiastic about the program she and her fellow employees have restructured [so] the site reaches a larger market this filing season.
The electric partnership program was set up to help low-income households in Mahoning and Trumbull counties become more energy efficient. Mycap staff performs energy audits in those households, focusing on refrigeration and lighting, to lower the residents’ electric bills.
The program received exemplary performance reviews from the Ohio Development Services Agency for Mycap staff knowledge of the basics of energy efficiency and weatherization and serving its clients.
