May Sales of New Vehicles Up 11.5% in Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new vehicles climbed 11.5% in May among dealers in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties compared to last year, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report.
ADEAO reports that dealers in the three-county area sold 2,618 new cars and trucks during the month, compared to 2,347 sold a year ago, an 11.5% hike.
The Chevrolet Cruze, manufactured at General Motors Co.'s Lordstown Complex, proved the highest-selling new vehicle in terms of volume with 219 sold during the month. Second was the Chevrolet Malibu with 133 sold; third was the Chevrolet Equinox with 121 sold; fourth-best was the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup with 109; and the Ford F-150 pickup proved the fifth-best new model with 86 sales.
Sales of combined new and used vehicles were flat, showing a less than one percent decline compared to a year earlier, ADEAO's report says.
Sales of new and used cars and trucks stood at 5,973 during the month, versus 6,004 sold last year, a drop of 0.5%.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, moved the most new vehicles during the month with 196, ADEAO reported. Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep was second with 188 sold; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, recorded 169 new sales, while Taylor Kia of Boardman, and Stadium Chevrolet, Salem, each sold 126 new vehicles for the month.
