Lake-to-River Food Co-op Launches E-Commerce
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Buying fresh, local foods just got easier for residents of the Mahoning Valley, the Lake-to-River Food Cooperative says, because it has begun to offer local milk, eggs, cheese, meats, apples and other foods through its e-commerce website.
The site makes it easy to purchase directly from farmers and producers in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, the cooperative says.
Its online market opens at 7 a.m. every Thursday and closes at noon the following Monday. Fruit, greens, cheese and other items ordered online are available for pickup at 907 Elm Street from 4 to 6 p.m. each Thursday. The co-op delivers to institutional buyers and has plans to offer the same service to individuals, co-op officials say, as well as establish more pickup locations around the Valley.
The Lake-To-River Food Cooperative, formed in 2011, is a member-owned organization that consists of food buyers, producers, processors, and buyers who grow, prepare, add value to and market agricultural products to institutional and commercial buyers in the Mahoning Valley and throughout the region and beyond. The cooperative is actively selling products to local school systems through a farm-to-school initiative, partnering with the Humility of Mary Health System and working with three retail stores.
