GM Tells Dealers to Stop Selling Certain Cruzes
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- General Motors Co. is notifying its Chevrolet dealers to stop selling 2014 and 2013 Chevrolet Cruze models equipped with a 1.4 liter turbo engine.
James Cain, GM senior manager, sales and executive communciations, confirmed the "stop sale" affecting the 1.4-liter model from the 2013 and 2014 years, which represents about 60% of retail sales. He was unable to provide further information regarding the action, and did not expect any to be available later today.
Glenn Johnson, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112, which represent production workers at GM's Lordstown Complex, where the Cruze is produced, said he learned about the order this morning. He was unable to comment further.
Doug Sweeney, owner of Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman, confirmed his dealership was notified of the stop-sell order this morning, but cautions the order is "probably precautionary." Sweeney Chevrolet has 17 of the affected models on the lot, he added.
Typically stop-sell orders result in some sort of safety adjustment being made to the affected models, often at the dealerships.
Meanwhile, GM is recalling in 2014 Cadillac plug-in hybrid ELR to fix an electronic glitch, according to published reports.
No Cruze models have been recalled.
