GM Sales Increase 14%, Cruze Sales Up 8%
DETROIT -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze rose 8.3% during November, as General Motors Co. posted overall double-digit delivery gains for the month.
GM reported it sold 212,060 new cars and trucks during November, a 14% increase compared to year-ago figures. Retail sales were up 19% while fleet sales were down 3%, the company said.
Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze, manufactured at GM's Lordstown, Ohio, Complex, stood at 18,200 units sold for the month compared to 16,807 sold in November 2012, a gain of 8.3%, the company said. It was the best sales in November for the small car.
GM's Chevrolet brand saw 13% gain in deliveries while retail sales were up 20%, the company said. Deliveries of the Malibu rose 41%, the Volt was up 26%, and the Impala saw gains of 20%.
"November sales were strong at all four of our brands, and demand was robust for everything from cars to crossovers to the industry's newest and best full-size pickups," said Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. sales operations. "We feel good about the economy and our own momentum."
GM estimated the seasonal adjusted annual sales rate, or SAAR, for November at more than 16 million light vehicles. The SAAR gauges the industry's projected annual sales based on business volume during a single month. To date, sales are estimated at 15.6 million units sold across the industry for the year.
