YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- New-vehicle sales of the Chevrolet Equinox edged ahead of the Lordstown-made Chevrolet Cruze locally in April, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
Last month, dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 166 Equinoxes, slightly more than the 162 Cruzes, when they sold 2,754 new vehicles overall, up 10.6% from the 2,489 sold in April a year ago.
Chevrolet represented the top-four new models sold in April with sales of the Equinox and Cruze followed by the Malibu with 125 units and the Silverado 1500 with 90.
The Ford F-150 pickup truck rounded out the top five, with 84 sold.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, sold the most new vehicles in April, 161, followed by Taylor Kia of Boardman with 144, just ahead of the 143 sold by Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman. Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, followed with 134 cars and trucks sold, with The Honda Store, Boardman, rounding out the top five, with 130 new units sold.
Other than Greenwood, which saw its April sales two fewer than a year earlier, the other four dealers posted gains.
The Chevrolet Impala was the top-selling used vehicle sold in April, with 114 sold, followed by the Chevrolet Malibu, with 109, and the Silverado 1500, with 108. Two Ford Models completed the top-five, the Escape, with 85 sold, and the F-150, with 83.
Year to date, new-vehicle sales for area dealers are up from last year, 9,494 units as of the end of last month compared with 9,070 for the first four months of 2013.
