DRS Technology Initiative to Support Local Nonprofits
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A philanthropic initiative intended to provide thousands of dollars in technology equipment to support local nonprofits will be officially launched by DRS LLC May 9 at the Northeast Ohio Technology Summit.
The winner of the initiative will be determined through a combination of public vote and a selection committee. “We realize that technology keeps many nonprofits from reaching their full potential,” said Mike Meloy, CEO of DRS LLC, an information technology consulting firm and service provider. “Through this initiative, we hope to remove the technology barrier so that nonprofits can be all that they can be.”
The initiative will provide at least $30,000 in technology equipment and services to a nonprofit that needs the assistance to grow and continue to serve the community. The winner will also receive a website makeover donated by PALO Creative, an advertising, interactive and public relations agency.
Four other finalists will receive in-depth analyses of their technology systems and a technology roadmap to guide their efforts. The package for finalists is valued at $4,000. Ohio-based nonprofits with a 501(c)3 designation are eligible to enter.
A selection committee made up of DRS employees will review the nominations. The committee will narrow the applicants to 20 nonprofits that will be considered for the awards. Those 20 in turn will be reduced to five finalists through an online public vote.
The ultimate winner will be selected through a combination of public vote (serving as one vote) and the votes of a committee of six made up of local leaders from the public sector and private industries.
Organizations can register for the technology giveaway at the Northeast Ohio Technology Summit May 9 at the Youngstown State University Williamson College of Business. To register, visit http://www.regionalchamber.com and click on the calendar of events.
