DiRusso’s Celebrates 50 Years at Canfield Fair
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- DiRusso’s Real Italian Sausage Concessions, now in its 50th year, will celebrate 50 years of selling its sausage sandwiches at the Canfield Fair when the popular annual event returns next week.
DiRusso’s Sausage has been a favorite of fairgoers since 1964 when Augustine “Augie” DiRusso started his concession business. His mother, Adeline DiRusso, was the originator of DiRusso’s sausage recipe.
Upon Augie’s retirement in 1993, Robert DiRusso, his nephew, purchased the manufacturing business, now located at 1035 W. Rayen Ave.. Robert, who was raised and lives in Canfield, says he has never missed attending the Canfield Fair and at the age 12 started working in DiRusso’s trailers. With his brothers, David and Larry, he worked and operated DiRusso’s sausage trailers through high school and college, and has managed the trailer operations at the Canfield Fair for over 30 years.
"DiRusso’s Sausage would like to thank all our customers who have patronized our concession stands at the Canfield Fair and all the past and present employees who have made it all possible for the past 50 years," says Russo. "The Canfield Fair and our 50th anniversary celebration are truly something to crow about. Grazie!"
In 2000, DiRusso’s introduced its Turkey Italian Sausage at the fair. The company is a 30-year sponsor of the fair's rooster crowing contest, the Fruit, Hay & Grain Building, and donates a parking lot Courtesy Pavilion.
