Cohasset Express Is New Way to See Mill Creek Park
CANFIELD, Ohio -- After some eight months spent refurbishing the vehicle, Mill Creek MetroParks presented its trolley, the Cohasset Express, to the press Monday afternoon.
Its first two tours, scheduled for March 15, are sold out, reported marketing manager Leslie Cusano. Spaces remain for the thre tours scheduled for April, inclucing on Earth Day, April 22.
Still being planned is a tour of the landscaping of Mill Creek Park, called “Parkitecture,” to be conducted by planning director Justin Rogers.
For those who want to see the trolley sooner, the Cohasset Express will be part of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade this Sunday on Market Street, Boardman.
MetroParks management had been looking to acquire a trolley for five years, said Executive Director Dennis Miller, and when the trolley was spotted last July on the lot of Haas Auto Group, they acted.
The trolley, built in Florida atop a Chevrolet truck by Cable Car Concerns, has traveled only 31,000 miles despite being built in 1987. R&J Trucking performed the bodywork, Custom Tarp provided the vinyl coverings for the open windows toward the back, and Guy Shively contributed the graphics and logo on the trolley.
Because of the graphics and new coat of paint, Rogers declared the Cohasset Express “a phenomenal looking piece of art.” The trolley did indeed look brand-new.
The vehicle, which has hard wooden seats, holds 14 plus the driver – of whom there are three.
MetroParks wants the public to know that the trolley is available for rent – rates start at $350 for a two-hour minimum, including the driver – to help people celebrate weddings, graduations and other festive occasions. The third and succeeding hours are $150 each. Tour guides for the park will be extra, probably an extra $25.
The trolley is available to travel outside Mill Creek Park.
Tours and tour routes are still “in the planning process,” Cusano said, but those who take the trolley on one of its tours can expect to pay $5.
