Chevrolet Cruze Sales Up 51% in October
DETROIT -- Sales of the Lordstown, Ohio-built Chevrolet Cruze rose 51% in October, General Motors Co. reported Monday, driving compact car sales to their highest level since 2003.
GM said it delivered 226,819 vehicles in the United States last month – the company’s best October sales since 2007. Still, the number is up only slightly from October 2013 when GM delivered 226,402 units, or a gain of just 0.2%.
In addition to higher Cruze sales, GM’s Chevrolet brand enjoyed stronger sales of the Silverado, Traverse and Equinox. And the automaker’s Buick brand enjoyed its best October sales in more than a decade.
Cruze deliveries totaled 24,289 in October compared to 16,087 last October. Year-to-date, Cruze sales total 232,403 – up 9.7% over the first 10 months of 2013.
Ford Motor Co. said it sold 188,654 vehicles last month, down 1.8% from last October.
Chrysler sales jumped 21.7%, its best performance since 2001, with the biggest gains recorded by its Jeep and Ram brands.
Toyota said its sales increased 6.9% in October compared to last year; Nissan sales were up 13.3% and Honda plus 5.85. Hyundai said its October sales fell 6.5%.
