AT&T Looks to Hire 300 More Veterans in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- AT&T is seeking applicants to fill some 300 jobs in Ohio, including positions in Youngstown, Akron and Cleveland, Adam Grzybicki, president of AT&T Ohio, announced Thursday. The positions will be in customer service, retail and technician positions.
In the first 10 months of 2013, AT&T hired nearly 840 Ohioans to meet continued growth of wireless and broadband services in the state, the company said.
As a part of its employment drive in Ohio and across the country, AT&T is looking to hire 10,000 military veterans and their families in the next five years. The company has established a military talent attraction team, which promotes AT&T's career opportunities to veterans and educates managers across AT&T on the benefits of hiring military veterans.
In the first half of 2013, AT&T spent more than $225 million on its networks in Ohio. The investments included deployment of new macro cell sites, small cells and distributed antenna systems. The company also expanded and enhanced its 4G LTE network, which provides ultra-fast mobile Internet speeds, and deployed new Wi-Fi hot spots. The first-half investment in networks builds on the more than $1.5 billion that AT&T spent on its Ohio wireless and wired networks from 2010 through 2012.
"Jobs in the communications industry offer a great opportunity for veterans to showcase what they can do," said Timothy C. Gorrell, director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services. "Both AT&T and our state will be well-served to see veterans counted in the numbers of Ohioans hired by the company."
Full- and part-time positions offer competitive wages and benefits, AT&T says. It employs nearly 7,000 throughout Ohio and has spent $280 million training employees including $26.6 million in tuition aid during 2012.
Across the United States, more than 3,600 veterans started new careers at AT&T last year. And with veterans' skills proving to be a good fit for the company's needs, AT&T says it is doubling its hiring goal for veterans and their family members to 10,000 over the next five years, consistent with its commitment to equal employment opportunities. About 55% of the veterans AT&T hired in 2013 made their transition to the private sector as technicians.
