Biden to Campaign Friday at UAW Hall in Lordstown
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Vice President Joe Biden will make a campaign stop Friday at the United Auto Workers Local 1714 union hall in Lordstown, according to multiple sources. The official news advisory had not been issued as of this posting.
Biden's visit comes one week after General Motors Co. announced it would spend $200 million to retool the Lordstown manufacturing complex for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze.
The stop here is apparently one in a series of events scheduled for the Labor Day weekend that are designed to call attention to the Obama Administration’s bailout of General Motors and Chrysler. On Monday Biden is expected to participate in a parade through downtown Detroit, according to a posting o the Michigan AFL-CIO Facebook page.
Today the Obama Administration announced it intends to nearly double fuel efficiency standards, to bring miles-per-gallon on an average car or light-duty truck to 54.5 mpg by the 2025 model year.
“Consumers have already responded to the administration's fuel efficiency standards for Model Years 2011 through 2016, and it shows in the popularity of cars like GM's Chevy Cruze and trucks like the Ford F-150 equipped with an EcoBoost engine instead of the conventional V-8,” the White House said in a statement.
Biden last visited the Mahoning Valley in May, stopping by M-7 Technologies in Youngstown. During that visit, he honed in GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's record during his years as CEO of the Bain Capital private equity firm. (READ STORY)
