Sales Up in July for Valley Auto Dealers
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Auto dealers in the Mahoning Valley saw sales of new cars and trucks climb 15.7% in July compared to the same month last year, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's latest report.
ADEAO's monthly report shows dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 3,090 new vehicles during the month versus 2,669 sold in July 2013.
The top-selling new model in the three-county region was the Chevrolet Cruze, built at General Motors Co.'s Lordstown complex. Dealers reported they sold 107 new Cruze models last month.
Also selling well in the Valley were the Chevrolet Malibu and Chevy Impala, the report shows. Dealers said they sold 97 new Malibu models and 92 new Impalas, the second and third-highest volume sales in the area.
Rounding out the top five best-sellers iwere the Ford F-150 pickup also with 92 sales and the Ford Escape with 89 sales.
Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, reported the highest volume sales for new vehicles during the month with 227. Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported the second-highest with 202 sold; Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, sold 161 new vehicles; Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, reported 151 new sales; and Taylor Kia, Boardman, reported 136 sales for the month.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were also up during the month. In July, dealers reported they sold 6,820 new and used vehicles for the period compared to 6,343 in July last year, an increase of 7.5%.
