Sales of Houses in Ohio Jump 20.5% in April
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of houses sold across Ohio rose 20.5% in April as the market posted gains for the 22nd consecutive month, the Ohio Association of Realtors announced Wednesday.
In northeastern Ohio, sales of 3,325 units represent a 15.5% increase over April 2012.
Sales through the first four months of 2013 reached 35,412, a 15.6% increase from the 30,636 sales posted during the same period a year ago, the Realtors said. The average sales price (January through April) was $128,547, a 5.1% increase from $122,349 set the period a year ago. Total dollar volume this year is more than $4.5 billion, a 21.4% increase from the four-month mark of a year ago of $3.7 billion.
The figures comprise new and existing single-family houses and condominiums/co-ops.
In the northeastern Ohio, which consists of 17 counties including Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull, the 3,325 units sold in April represent a 15.5% increase over 2012. Dollar volume of $422,496,917 is up 19.9% and the average sale price of $127,067 is an increase of 3.9%. Year to date, 9,678 units were sold for a 10.9% increase. Dollar volume of $1.32 million is up 18.7%. And the average sale price of $123,044 is 7.1% higher.
Sales in April reached 10,991, a 20.5% increase from the 9,121 sales posted the same month in 2012, and the best mark since 2007. The average sales price of $134,388 is 3.5% higher than the $129,858 average price posted a year ago.
