Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Go in Reverse in 2012
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks in the Mahoning Valley decreased during 2012 compared to the previous year, as sales also slipped during the month of December, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's latest monthly report.
Dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties reported year-end sales of 23,760 new vehicles in 2012 compared to 24,651 sold during 2011, a decline of 3.6%.
For December, new vehicle sales were down 6.7%, as showrooms reported sales of 1,607 units compared to 1,723 the previous year.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were roughly even for the year, while dropping in December, ADEAO reported.
In 2012, local dealers registered titles for 64,608 new and used cars and trucks compared to 65,211 title registrations in 2011, a drop of less than 1%. In December, dealers reported 4,052 new and used vehicles sold compared to 4,645 sold that month a year ago, a decrease of 12.7%.
The best-selling vehicle in terms of volume for the month was the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck with 90 new sales. The second-best seller was the Chevrolet Equinox with 86 sales, third was the Chevrolet Malibu at 55 new sales, fourth was the Ford-F-150 pickup, and the fifth-highest seller was the Chevrolet Cruze with 52 sold.
Taylor Kia of Boardman turned in the highest number of new vehicles sold in December with 91. Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, registered the second-highest sales at 83 sold, Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported 75 sold, Boardman Subaru was fourth-highest with 74 sold, and Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, reported it sold 67 new cars and trucks during the month.
