Human Rights Campaign Recognizes Huntington Bank
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Huntington Bancshares Inc., parent of Huntington National Bank, announced Monday that, based on the 100% score it received from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation Corporate Equality Index, it has been rated among the best places for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals to work.
Huntington Bank has $57 billion in assets and serves Ohio, Michigan, western Pennsylvania, the West Virginia panhandle, northern Kentucky and central Indiana.
Huntington’s improved Human Rights Campaign rating “is the result of a grassroots employee engagement campaign with executive leadership toward a shared goal of better demonstrating Huntington’s commitment to the LGBT community as part of its overall commitment to inclusion,” said Steve Steinour, president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our colleagues for uniting together to improve Huntington’s HRC Corporate Equality Index score,” Steinour continued. “Recognition among the best places to work by the Human Rights Campaign is a great honor and a validation of our ongoing efforts to be a leading employer of choice. … Huntington is committed to moving forward to continue an excellent reputation for LGBT equality as an employer and business dedicated to inclusion as a ore value.”
Huntington had already made available to the LGBT community most of the benefits the Human Rights Campaign assessed, Steinour noted. To raise its score to 100%, Huntington expanded benefits to that community such as a tax gross-up provision for health-care coverage to equalize the tax effect for same-sex marriages participating in the health-care plan. The Corporate Equality Index also recognizes Huntington’s policies on equal employment and nondiscrimination as well as LGBT colleague and community engagement.
