Greenwood Leads Dealers in March New Vehicle Sales
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown was tops among area dealers in sales of new cars and trucks last month, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reports. Monthly statistics released by the association show Greenwood sold 205 vehicles last month, edging Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman, which sold just seven fewer units, 198.
Both dealers' March numbers reflected substantial improvements from a year earlier. In March 2012, Greenwood sold 65 fewer units than last month, 140, while Sweeney's March 2013 sales performance was nearly double the 106 units it sold a year earlier.
Rounding out the top five in area sales were Columbiana Buick Cadillac Chevrolet in Columbiana with 118 units sold, Stadium GMC Superstore in Salem with 112 and Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Austintown with 112 units.
New vehicle sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties last month totaled 2,577 units, about a 10% gain from the 2,344 sold in March 2012. Sales of new and used vehicles combined were down slightly last month in the three counties from a year earlier, 6,837 in March compared to 6,896 the same month a year ago.
In combined new and used-car sales, Greenwood again led area dealers with 373, followed by Sweeney with 274. Taylor Kia, with dealerships in Boardman and Warren, sold 200 new and used units, followed by Stadium GM, with 167.
Chevrolet models took the top four spots in terms of new vehicle sales among area dealers, led by the Malibu, with 230 units soldin March, up from 193 a year earlier. That was followed by the Equinox with 220 sold, more than double the 90 sold in March 2012. T
he Lordstown-built Cruze came in third among the top five, with 173 sold in March, up slightly from 169 a year earlier. Completing the top 5 were the Silverado 1500, up 37 from March 2012's 91 to 128 last month, and the Ford F-150, the 98 units sold in March slightly more than double the 43 a year earlier.
