February New Vehicle Sales Dip Slightly in Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Frigid temperatures in February cooled off vehicle purchases from area showrooms, as sales largely kept pace with those of the year before, reports the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
Dealers reported selling 1,745 new cars and trucks last month, down modestly from 1,766 in February 2013. Members of the ADAEO sold 5,604 new and used vehicles last month, down just four units from 5,608 a year earlier. Sales of used vehicles totaled 3,859, up slightly from 3,842 in February 2013.
General Motors Co. dominated the top five slots. The top-selling new vehicle locally in February was the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze. Dealers sold 173 Cruze units in February, up 86% from 93 a year ago. The Chevrolet Equinox was the second best-seller, with 116 units, up slightly from 114 a year earlier.
The GMC Terrain was the third top-selling vehicle, with 88 units sold, nearly double the 49 units sold in February 2013. Rounding out the top five were the Chevrolet Malibu with 82 units sold, down from 104 a year earlier, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, with 67 units sold, down from 117 in February 2013.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, led area dealers in in new vehicle sales, with 129 cars and trucks sold, down slightly from 138 in February 2013. Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, nearly quadrupled its sales from a year earlier, selling 123 units last month, compared with 33 a year earlier.
Bob & Chuck Eddy in Austintown sold 98 new units last month, up from 76 a year earlier. Sweeney Buick GMC sold 90 new vehicles in February, up from 68 a year earlier, while Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, sold 85 new units, down from 104 in February 2013.
