Farmers Opens Wealth Management Center
CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp. officially opened its Wealth Management Center, 2 Broad St., Thursday as four directors joined senior management and Mayor Bernie Kosar Sr. to snip the broad royal-blue ribbon with a pair of oversized scissors.
Helping the president and CEO, Kevin Helmick, cut the ribbon were directors David Paul, Terry Moore, Greg Bestic and Gregg Strollo, Senior Vice President Mark Graham, Mayor Bernie Kosar Sr., Senior Vice President Amber Wallace, Vice President Dan Cvercko and Executive Vice President Carl Culp.
Helmick remarked how the 3,200-square-foot building, remodeled in 50 days and 10 days ahead of schedule, had opened as an office for Farmers Savings Co. before being sold in 1982 to the former First Federal Savings and Loan Co. of Youngstown.
First Federal became part of the former First Place Bank, which in turn vacated the structure when it relocated west on U.S. 224, making it available to a growing Farmers National Banc Corp.
The renovated building has nine offices and a meeting room on the first floor and an office and open work area on the second, said David Harris, principal of DPH Architecture here. The Murphy Contracting Co. of Youngstown performed the remodeling.
Nine employees, led by Cvercko, will offer insurance, investment, commercial banking, private banking and mortgage services there. The building is the fifth site where Farmers offers wealth management services, he noted.
One aspect of the work was installing a through-the-wall ATM on the southern side, an amenity the headquarters building next door at 20 Broad St. lacked. The main banking office once had a mobile ATM inside but never an ATM accessible from the outside 24/7, said Wallace, senior vice president for marketing.
Kosar thanked Farmers for “the honor” of taking part in yesterday’s ceremonies, saying, “In my wildest dreams, I never imagined I’d be here [as mayor].” The retired industrial engineer, a co-chairman of the committee to build the Veterans Center Building at Youngstown State University, related how he told the architect of that building, “I want it to look like the Farmers National Bank in Canfield, Ohio.”
On a side note, the efforts to fund construction of the Veterans Center Building, just north of the YSU president’s house on Wick Avenue, “have surpassed their fundraising goal,” Kosar announced. The budget for the building was projected at $1.31 million.
The veterans center should open early next month, Kosar said afterward.
The mayor also saluted Farmers for its involvement in the communities it serves throughout Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties: “I applaud you for the many services you’ve performed,” he stated.
