Chevy Cruze Tops Locally in October Car Sales
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze outpaced other vehicles sold in October among area dealers, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
Last month, 153 units of the Lordstown-manufactured General Motors model were titled in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, ahead of last October’s Cruze sales, 119. Year-to-date, Cruze sales in the three-county area are nearly 300 units ahead of last year, with 1,438 vehicles sold through October compared with the 1,159 sold during the first 10 months of 2013.
Locally, the Chevrolet Equinox was the second highest-selling vehicle, with 108 units sold in October compared with 68 a year earlier. Year-to-date, area dealers have sold 1,296 units of the model, up 560 from the 736 sold during the same 10-month period last year.
The Ford F-150 placed third in October sales in the three-county area, with 90 units sold, up from 76 a year earlier, followed by the Chevrolet Malibu, with 89 units sold, up from 53 a year ego. The Ford Escape rounded out the top five locally, with 84 units sold in October, up from 62 a year earlier.
Three Austintown dealerships led in sales among area dealers last month.
Greenwood Chevrolet sold the most new cars among area dealers in October, with 132 sold, up from 125 in October 2012. Year-to-date, the dealership has sold 1,633 new vehicles, a 35.7% increase from the first 10 months of 2012.
Fred Martin Ford Mercedes followed, with 119 new cars sold, a 67.6% gain from the same period a year ago. Sales at the dealership through October total 827, a 29.6% increase from the first 10 months of 2012.
Coming in third among area dealers last month was Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep which sold 115 new vehicles, down from 131 the previous October.
Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, followed, with 98 new vehicles sold in October, up from 96 a year earlier. Fairway Ford, Canfield, filled out the top five, with 98 new units sold, up from 91 in October 2012.
Overall, area dealers sold 2,302 new vehicles in October, up from 1,982 in October 2012. Year-to-date, new vehicle sales by area dealers total 23,813 through October, up from 20,420 during the comparable period last year.
Area dealers sold a combined 5,978 new and used vehicles in October, compared with 5,499 in October 2010. Year-to-date, new and used vehicles are up nearly 4,600 compared to last year, 60,299 through last month compared with 55,712 during the first 10 months of 2012.
