Auto Dealers Report Sales Increase in January
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Auto dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties report slightly higher sales of new vehicles in January compared to the same period last year, according to the latest report from the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
Local dealers reported that 2,301 new cars and trucks were sold last month, compared to 2,238 sold in January 2013, an increase of 2.8%, the organization reported in its monthly survey.
The Chevrolet Cruze proved to be the top-selling new vehicle in the three-county region with 224 sold. The Chevrolet Malibu turned in the second-best sales in terms of volume with 121; the Chevrolet Equinox was third with 105; the Ford Escape racked up 74 sales; and rounding out the top five was the Ford F-150 pickup with 73 units sold.
Leading the top five dealerships in terms of new volume sales for the month was Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown with 152 new sales, according to ADAEO. Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, ranked second with 149 sold; Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, was third with 110 sold; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, reported it sold 102 new vehicles; and Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, reported it sold 100 new cars and trucks in January.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were down 2%, the report shows. A total of 5,181 used cars and trucks were sold in January versus 5,284 sold a year ago.
Used car sales were down 5.4%, ADAEO reported. Last month, used car lots sold 2,880 units compared to 3,046 sold in January 2014.
