Afzal Joins Boards of UCFC, Home Savings
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp. holding company of The Home Savings and Loan Co., said Monday that Zahid Afzal has joined the boards of directors of both.
Afzal, most recently senior executive vice president of Huntington National Bank where he was its chief information officer, has more than 26 years of experience as a senior information technology and business executive, UCFC said.
ComputerWorld magazine named him one of its Top 100 CIOs.
Afzal has also been employed as a senior IT officer at Bank of America, Broadslate Networks, Citibank and MCI Telecommunications.
His background and achievements in information technology led Patrick Bevack, president and CEO of UCFC, to say, “Zahid’s broad experience in banking will be an invaluable asset to both Home Savings and United Community. With his extensive knowledge of information technology and risk management, we believe Zahid will have an immediate impact on our goals to further strengthen our enterprisewide risk-management program and develop information technology strategies that enable us to efficiently grow our business and improve customer service.”
Afzal earned a baccalaureate in mathematics at the University of Karachi and did further study at Strayer University, the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and at The Ohio State University.
