YSU Theater Marks 50 Years with Special Performances
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown State University Theater will present its next performance, “Celebrating 50 Years of University Theater: A Musical Commemoration” at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Ford Theater. This show is a celebration of theater with a look back at many of the more than 200 productions the theater has produced over the last half century.
Directed by musical theater instructor Nancy Andersen Wolfgang, the production consists of 34 scenes and songs deemed to best reflect the best of what the YSU Department of Theater and Dance has produced over the last 50 years.
These shows will be represented either through musical numbers or straight scenes from “West Side Story,” “Chicago,” “The Fantasticks,” “Carousel,” “Rent,” “Into the Woods,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Kiss Me, Kate,” “The Rainmaker” and “A Doll's House.”
“Over the course of the past 50 years, University Theater has brought live theater to tens of thousands of patrons in our community," said Bryan W. DePoy, dean of the College of Creative Arts and Communication. "We are fortunate to have such strong community support of our program, and our student performers reciprocate with their extraordinary commitment and sharing of talents. It is also important to note that in the past 50 years, many of our theater students, including Youngstown's own Ed O'Neill, have gone on to successful careers in theater and other areas of the entertainment industry.”
The show’s run is scheduled Nov. 8, 9 and 10, and Nov. 15, 16 and 17. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. Show tickets may be purchased by calling the University Theater box office at 330 941 3105. Ticket prices are free for YSU students with university ID; $10 for adults; $5 for senior citizens, YSU faculty and staff and high school and college students from other universities, Penguin Club members and YSU alumni.
