YMCA Receives $25,000 from Youngstown Foundation
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- YMCA of Youngstown has been awarded a grant of $25,000 from The Youngstown Foundation to help pay for replacing the hot water system in the Central YMCA, the foundation and the Y announced.
The grant helps to complete the first two phases of the project that call for replacing the system on the bottom level of the original 96-year old building of the Y.
“We’ve invested over $150,000 so far on the project,” said Mike Shaffer, Central YMCA director, in a prepared statement. “This will not just alleviate past water issues, but strengthen our ability to fulfill our mission in the community far into the future.”
Timothy Hilk, CEO of the Y, said that without the support of organizations such as The Youngstown Foundation the Y would find it much harder to maintain the high quality of its programs and services. “This major investment underscores our commitment to downtown Youngstown,” he noted in a prepared statement. “This is just the beginning of a number of improvements planned for the future of this facility.”
The third phase of the project, to replace all vertical water systems, is projected for 2014.
